Photogenic places in Kyoto and surrounding areas?

Hi

Visiting Kyoto for three days during this month. What would be the most photogenic places to go to. Are there particular things one should be aware of in these places (tripod use, permit for tripods or photography, access during the best light? (photos are for non commercial use) etc)
