Hate to admit it, but I have the AF issue. Going to make a case with Nikon. Any advice?

Are you sure you have a camera body issue?

You imply no problem with 2 lenses and a problem with one wide angle lens.

When a camera body has an AF problem it shows with any lens - not one out of three.

Your target is at an angle which can sometimes induce mis-focus. There does not seem to be good readable detail suitable for an outer vertical reading sensor in the region of the centre of the watch.

The far outer phase detect AF lines read centre and inside of the viewfinder mark, rather than centre and each side with inner detectors. LiveView can detect different detail (explained in your camera instructions) to phase detect AF. With a few subjects one or the other focus method can give a poor result.

Whether your phase detect alignment is a bit off with the left sensor is unclear.

If you retest with a betterĀ AF subject you may find you get a good left hand result with your wide angle
