Dated AF module - is something new coming?

Nikon has been using the same AF module since 2007.

This module has poor frame coverage - essentially it is a DX module used in FX camera.

It also has cross type points only in the centre.

Is not the time Nikon should bring something new? Do not FX cameras deserve their own large AF sensor? ​They could use the same sensor in high end DX cameras too with some peripheal points turned off.

As far I understand Nikon now has only 2 AF sensors:

The first one is the one used first in D3 and D300, being used further as is or with slight improvements, or dumbed down in D7000.

The second one is the one that was in D200, D80 and now survives D5100 and D3200.

It does not matter what is the name of the sensor. It only matters what it really is.

If I was in market for the high end camera in which AF is really important - as D4 is, I would feel reluctant buying it because it uses the same 5 years old little DX AF module.

Does anybody know anything regarding Nikon AF sensors and their future plans?

It feels that Nikon is stuck in one place and there are no hints it would improve.

It is an unpleasant feeling.
