How good/bad actually is the Nikkor 24-120 f4 VR?

I had both the previous 24 120 lenses one a D, lens the second the 1st version VR, when Nikon announced the f4 VR2, I was excited, well after I saw the price, and reviews that as far as I'm concerned are just a minor improvement over the 1st VR, so ! If i could  purchase a new 24 120 VR 1st version at the roughly $600.00 US when I bought mine, or the new one at $1300.00US, as it now stands, I would buy the first VR again and again.

The price just kills me to forget it, besides I switched to primes, and love it.

I'm happy to those who bought it, what I might do is wait a couple years and get a nice one  for about 2thirds of a new one.
