When I go away I use a Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA. It's easy to use, rugged and has a small screen. It's also not that expensive and you can replace or expand the hard drive. I also keep two back ups, one on the Colorspace and the other is the SDHC card locked for protection. Main point is to keep your two back up seperate from each other, i.e. store one in your bag and one on your body. As you will probably want to reuse your SD cards given the length of time you are away every now and then I would back them up, probably onto a disk and send them home.
