Right now these are fifty bucks different in price (Sigma $1249 Canon $1299) this is the non-IS Canon. I want to shoot my son's hockey games. Does anyone have any thoughts on which one to get? Pros/Cons? Unfortunately the Canon 2.8L IS is out of my price range at $1999.
Thanks,

Even the non-FLD Sigma 70-200s were sharper than the first generation Canon 70-200 f/2.8's. The non-IS Canon 70-200 has not been updated, where the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II and the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD have.
Get the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD not because it has IS/OS, but, Get it because it has better image quality.
What the graphs above fail to provide is BUILD, and real world focus speed and color. I have owned both of these lenses and returned the Sigma for the Canon the build was better the IQ was about the same and with the amount of work I do in post you wouldn't notice the difference. AF speed is very important you'll miss the OS in low light on the long end but hey find a rest or something steady to comp for it. in other words get a used canon 70-200 f2.8 and give it a whirl.
