Yes - it works fine for what it's designed to do - all purpose lens for when you have decent light and don't want to carry a bunch of lenses nor keep switching lenses and introducing dust onto your sensor. Had used 28-300 on my D3S for almost 2 years now and have been pleased with it. Not sure if you're coming from DX, but if you used the 18-200 VR (or identical VR II except for lock switch), the 28-300 is better quality than 18-200 (as it needs to be on full frame).
