The lighting may not be as soft as that from a soft box but in my opinion too much softboxing makes the lighting look very flat and artificial, and for animals like frogs it looks as if they're looking out of a window with the reflection.
This is what I read in many reviews and I was wondering if I need to buy the expensive R1C1 flash. I'll start of with DIY set up like this one, get a R200 remote flash and combine it with my SB 600 to make twin flash set up and and use the SB 600 as commander. I know they may not be totally balanced but one step closure before getting SU 800 and another R200 to make a R1 set up. I see them on sale in ebay.
