Hi, I'm about to buy the D7000 (I _might_ to fallback to 5100 after getting greediness attack -- but I still don't know, which lenses... There are great discounts at adorama and the bundles
18-105mm DX VR Lens, & Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR
and
18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR II Lens
Remember that whatever lens you stick on your camera is gonna be magnified 1.5x. So if you buy something that zooms up to 300mm, it's actually going to give you a 450mm field of view. Do you ever shoot things that far away? Unless you're into birding, probably not. So why carry all of that weight around? Not only that, but those superzooms usually give you crappy image quality.
I shoot plenty of things with 300mm+ that are not birds.
I would say that 18-105 would be a decent choice, but it's a DX lens and there's no point in locking yourself into a DX system.
Though now it's not really locking in since the D600 and D800 both have DX crop modes as I'm sure all future FX cameras will have. Not that you would necessarily use a 18-105 on a D600 or 800 but then it's a cheap (but good) lens so it's not really a big investment.
