Issue with Vivitar 28mm/2

So I bought this used Vivitar 28mm/2 from Ebay and the images that it produces doesn't seem to be very good. Maybe there is an issue with the coating or maybe the lens is dirty? I don't know.
Here is an example. Excuse my messy closet and bedroom.
First picture is with the Vivitar 28mm/2 and the second is with the Canon FD 50mm/1.4. Both are jpegs right out of the camera. Thoughts?
