Try the D3100 forum, or Nikon lenses, or Third Party lenses. Why are you here?

Good place to ask that question, but I'm sorry you had to be told by Skipper. You're always welcome here at the Beginners Forum. I apologize for his behavior. Welcome, my friend.

Neither of the two lenses you've listed are that good and they don't autofocus on your camera. Make sure a Nikon lens says AF-S and you're good to go. Make sure a Sigma says HSM.

I would advise the Nikon 55-200 VR or the Nikon 55-300 VR. Both are reletively inexpensive, will autofocus and have built in stabilization. They will do a fine job for you.

If you want to spend a lot more, the Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR is a better lens, but those others should do just fine.

Again. Have a great weekend.
