I have the 35-350 , bought it in '93 and no dust . It is a push / puller also . I don't store in bag with hood reversed , it lays sideways .Most people that have dust problems - grab one end or other and lens extends .

Another thing is there is always a filter on all my lenses [ even the 180 macro ] and a lens cap until I am ready or waiting for a shot .

Don't sweat the push / pull - that kind of lens starts at the MP-E 65 and goes to the 100-400 but it takes a little to get used to .
