NEC monitor / SprectraView confusion

Unpacked my new NEC PA241W monitor today. I bought it without the SpectraView package that includes the software and OEM X-Rite device.

Do you recommend that I buy only the SpectraView software, and then separately buy the genuine X-Rite branded i1 Display Pro? That would allow me to use the colorimeter on any monitor, not just an NEC SpectraView, right?

I'm assuming that if I buy the NEC software & hardware kit, I wouldn't be able to use the device to calibrate/profile non-SpectraView monitors.

Or should I just forget about it and buy the SpectraView hardware/software bundle?

Dazed and confused, but doing do in wide gamut...
