I can't comment on how much it's improved from the K-5.
But with my FA20-35, I had terrible problems focusing on my *istDS and K10D. Mounted on the K-5 IIs, not a problem. And that's in my dimly lit living room!
Focusing does vary depending on the lens and light level. My DA40 sometimes hunts a bit. Overall, though, I'm quite impressed with the focusing performance.
