Just unboxed my black X100 -- some impressions...

ME TOO!  Look at the printed guide... it shows how to hold the body while gripping the ring... mine was tough to get off and yes, I too didn't want to hurt the baby!  If that fails, get a rubber jar lid removing wrench from the kitchen store (you should have one if you have lots of filters on lenses anyway)... and use that!  But really, you can't harm the camera unless you're Superman or Superwoman.  Hold the lens in your palm... we're talking about all metal here... your body heat should expand the metal enough to loosen the ring. My camera was chilly when I unboxed it.
