For the record, I'm not the one who invented the idea of tripod being imperative for D800. They discussed it in Nikon Forum.

Any high resolution cam needs either a very short shutter times or tripod for sharp images.

If you are going to shoot landscape with a pol filter hand-held on even a sunny day, you will run into trouble:

iso100 - 1/40s: least noise but far from pixel sharp due to camera motion

iso200 - 1/80s: probably the best compromise, not 100% sharp but might be good enough

iso400 - 1/160s: sharp but noise and banding kicking in, no reserve in the shadows...

I don't have steady hands so below 1/80s I start the produce some scrap with my DP1. Below 1/50s the amount of waste is so high that I usually don't bother shooting at all. I might be too rigorous about this but an unsharp image is not a keeper.
