Well, for one thing the Left-AF issue has hurt Nikon considerably, and I mean considerably specially because they kept their mouth shut about it.
Then there is also that a lot of people who wanted to upgrade to D800 did so already, whereas 5D Mark III users held out.
But there is no denying the fact that a lot of people switched to Nikon, myself included. Not because of the price of 5D Mark III, but because of the IQ of D800/D800e.
