Your point of the differences between a 16-50mm and a 17-55mm (minimal) are understandable.

Given that, I'm not sure why you don't understand the difference between a 50-150mm and a 70-200mm?

f/2.8 and f/4 ?

#1 price ( there is about $1000 difference between the two)

#2 size (some people don't want or need 200mm)

If 200mm is good enough for most FX shooter's why wouldn't 150mm be enough for DX users?

That's a $1000 penalty and a hefty size and weight difference in the bargain.

DX is about price, size and weight.

I had a 70-300VR... nice lens.

I almost never shot beyond 165mm with it.

Put a 55-200mm VR kit lens next to a 70-200mm VR...There is a huge difference.

What's wrong with offering 90% of your customer base with something in between?
