Another post about the mirrorless market
Oct 30, 2012

I just saw that BCN published a report on the current Japanese mirrorless market that I found interesting: http://bcnranking.jp/news/1210/121029_24049.html

It is in Japanese which I don't speak. Instead I recommend petapixels summary: http://www.petapixel.com/2012/10/30/the-current-state-of-the-mirrorless-war/#more-84253

There are a few interesting points. First, the summary don't report Ricohs marketshare. From my interpretation of the numbers and graphs without understanding a word japanese Ricoh, Leica and Samsung have 2,7% between them. Possibly the Pentax K-01 is included there as well.

Pentax Q really does well in Japan considering their 5,9 % marketplace earning the Q a solid place as the 7th most sold mirrorless camera with very stable sales over time. I really wonder if the Q sells as well internationally... Still it is no wonder that Pentax Ricoh is dedicated to the mount... It really is a market niche where they are alone and they sell reasonably well in their home market.

What really surprised me though is that Canon M already has almost 10% of the mirrorless market. Is it only the brand or is it more to what I think is a rather uninteresting camera than first meet the eye?

Otherwise it is as expected with m43 dominating with almost 50% followed by Sony, Nikon, Canon and Pentax in that order.

Pentax K-01
