What Happened to Canon's "Night Scene" on the G1X?

Yeah, that's called "slow syncho" in the G1X.  But I think the OP wanted everything done automatically.

The G1X AUTO mode is supposedly a "smart auto" so I thought it would do OK on a night scene.  Although I rarely use it, the AUTO mode tends toward proper ambient exposure even if the flash is raised.  This often results in slow shutter speeds (and complaints) hence the notices in the manual about using a tripod.  Slow syncho is not available in AUTO mode but is available in Program mode.
