Using HSS timing its very easy.. at 1/1000s on a FP shutter you still have a 1/125s shutter duration to play with, even a slow trigger is 'fast' in comparison. I can sync a Speedlight at 1/8000s using a Cactus V2 or even an optical slave whilst not using FP or HSS strobing, but it won't provide any advantage over just NOT using a faster shutter speed.. just like the sample you posted.
At best, using higher than x-sync shutter speeds results only in obtaining the same ratio of flash/ambient to losing 2.6 stops or greater. Only peak Hypersync will increase any ratio but the results are compromised by banding.
Leaf shutters will provide a benefit providing you can get a short duration flash to dump all its output within the duration that the shutter is set to. Without a fast flash with a fast sync, the full benefit of the shutter is lost and thats what this thread is about. Focal Plane shutters and Leaf shutters are fundamentally different. 1/1000s on a FP shutter takes longer than 1/250s to complete, 1/1000s with a Leaf shutter takes 1/1000s to complete.

Theres only one sun. Why do I need more than one light to get a natural result?
