Would the P510 work for this?

I have a P510 and love it -- but I use mine outdoors for scenery more than anything.  I have a friend that is looking for a camera to cover kids (ages around 11 & 13) sports (outdoor soccer, indoor basketball) and travel.  I am going to give her a few cameras to look at so she can have some options, and I would love to recommend the P510.  I would assume it would be good for outdoor sports, but not certain how it will work indoors for basketball.

I don't really have a way to go test this out myself -- does anyone know if the P510 would be a good option for the type of pictures she wants to take?  I see a lot of posts about birding and wildlife, but none about much else with the P510.
