Rant: Co-Worker Complains GX1 Does Not Have The "Wow" Factor
7 months ago

Co-worker of mine had a Nikon J1 and moved onto a GX1 because of more manual controls and options available. Taught her the basics of using the different PASM modes and exposure compensation, depth of field, etc.

Everytime I see her in the hallway, she tells me how much she misses the J1 and how the GX1 images (even after tweaking every part of the camera) is missing the "WOW" factor or the "POP" factor of the J1. This is even despite me loaning several of my high-end lenses (45mm/f1.8, 20mm/f1.7, 25mm/1.4). She uses these terminologies over and over like a broken record and asks me over and over if it's because the J1 has better quality lenses and so on. And now I avoid her like the plague and told her to go onto the V2 if she likes the Nikon images that much.

She's a beginner moving upmarket. Seems MFT used to be targeted to beginners moving upmarket to an interchangeable system. More and more recently, I've noticed vice-versa: career photographers moving down to MFT! Maybe this is the way it should be. Go figure!

Rant over.

Regards,

Andrew
