I have owned an i1Pro for 6 years. I have found it to be a very useful and versatile instrument. I use it primarily for my consulting business, building custom printer profiles for some of my clients as well as using it as a densitometer (with the free X-Rite ColorPort software). I have created my own custom printer calibration targets (using ColorPort) and they are readable in strip mode, so the measuring goes quickly. I particularly like that ColorPort lets you select what measurement data you want (density, spectral, or colorimetric). You specify which ones you want (any or all types), and the data gets written as a text file which is easily parsed and read by many apps. Overall, it's a very versatile instrument and I would not be able to offer to my clients the types of services that I do without it.
