If sharpness is your only concern then the Tamron may be the best value, but in all other things the Nikkor is the best (besides the VC, of course).

The tonal gradations, ability to shoot against the sun keeping contrast on a high level, color "pop" and bokeh are on a higher level, making the Tamron seem too expensive. I don't know if the Nikkor is too expensive or not, but probably both are There's no real competition to the Nikkor unless you switch to Canon.

From what I've seen, the Tamron is very good but I think it's overpriced compared to the Sigma  24-70 HSM II. Both look mostly the same optically, the difference is that the Tamron has VC and the Tamron seems to be more flare resistant. Both have 82mm filter threads.
