Is this normal from 24-70 2.8 lens?

Hi there,

I bought this lens a couple of weeks ago. The images are very soft. I am not getting the razor sharp images i used to get with my old combination (canon 7D + 24-70). I dont know if its the lens or the camera(D600). I have been reading many complaints about soft images with this camera. I would expect much sharper results from this lens.

This image was taken on a tripod. SB-700 off camera triggered by the onboard flash. focused on the eye nearest to the camera.
