You can shoot weddings with almost anything.

Many of the German wedding photographers only use primes (with at least two bodies though) and wouldn't do anything else. Image quality, light gathering and of course the look of the images is what counts for them.

But actually weddings don't depend sooooooooooooooooo much on perfect glass like other parts of photography may do. You can easily shoot weddings with a zoom. There may be some trade-offs when it comes to the play with DOF and you'll need to use higher ISOs which as well as the quality of the lens will affect image quality. But if you are able to compose nice images and know how to work with light, that won't be a game changer.

I personally use only primes - but not an DSLRs. I switched to mft this summer (with it's own effects on DOF) and it works perfectly well.
