Gary Friedman discusses this in his ebook on the RX-100.
The workaround is to use the front ring and set it to manual zoom when shooting video. Not only is it silent, but with proper technique, you can zoom much slower and smoother giving your video a more professional look.
He has a still image of his zooming technique and hand / finger positions.
