Thinking of buying D800: advice on lenses, CF cards, software etc

The 16-35 is supposed to be a really good lens but 28-300 is a bit of a jack of all trades so you'll lose a reasonable amount in image quality. I use a 17-35 an ultra wide, a 24-120 as my general purpose lens and a Sigma 150-500 for shots that need some reach. You might want to consider the 24-85 and the new 70-200 f4 along with that 16-85.
