7D to 5D mark iii ?

I see what you mean.

I had never noticed that when on spot metering, the 7D's VF shows a circle, while the 5D3 seems to show the circle always, no matter what metering mode choosen.

I'd guess that that's the default behaviour, what I don't know is whether this behaviour can be customized.
