Technically, the amount a light that a 1200mm APS-c Sensor camera lens will "catch/collect" will be about (2.7/2.8 , squared . 2.7x2.7) times that of the lens on Sx50. but the intensity of light per unit area on the sensor ( CCd/CMOS) detector will remain same, as that finally depends upon the F/D number only.

Hence Gwen is right, and so is LTZ right.
