The usage of sports has been thoroughly discussed on this forum. If you need 8fps in low light to shoot basketball I would look at alternatives. If you are interested in motorsports photography you will see a variety of camera bodies in use; including the 800 and the 5DMKIII. If you want to see some examples of motion using the D800, then take a peek:
