G5 Day 3 First pictures and frustration
Oct 27, 2012

Ridiculously cold day for October but you know how it is when you have a new camera. I am very pleased with my first shots with the G5. IQ I just wasn’t expecting and a surprising improvement over my Oly DSLRs.

I wish I was as pleased with handling. I am finding it a nightmare. Every time I want to change a setting seems so complicated and even when I’m not deliberately changing anything my clumsy hands (not helped by the cold) somehow manage to change the ISO to 1600 or the WB to something preposterous. I find myself tying to take a shot to find that my EVF has a menu item open. And I have icons appearing from nowhere. I love the results so I have to master it but I think it may take a little while.

These are all with the 100-300, virtually no PPing except cropping for effect and downsizing to 800 by 600 for display. The Extra Tele Conversion is fantastic and for all the doubters who think it is the same as digital zoom two of these shots use it and they are both well cropped.
