Can you convert Sony RAW in the future?
In reply to tom, Oct 27, 2012

A question that no-one has raised previously in this thread. That is: Are you sure you will be able to convert your old Sony RAW files in the future?

I know for certain you cannot rely on Sony to maintain conversion of its own RAW files!!! Although SR2 files from 7 years ago can be opened in today's IDC, the output is so badly smeared as to make it useless for decent images. Regrettably that leaves future conversion to other converters, such as Adobe. Whilst LR3 works well on SR2 files, there is no guarantee LR9 will be equally capable when it hits the shelves in 10 or so years’ time.

That could mean at some point in the future you will have to convert your thousands of old RAW files to DNGs or TIFs in order to maintain their intrinsic high quality for editing purposes.

Just a thought.
