Sounds correct to me, as far as I know the nearly lossless conversion mode only works with movies. The extra teleconversion uses cropping and so gives more magnification, but this only works in movies where less resolution is required (compared to stills).
Even if you can enable tele conversion in stills mode (I think my GF3 could do that) it would be just digital zoom.
