Mike, you are dead on with this remark!!! As long as you are not comparing it with other better lenses - you are fine... When I sent my 24-70 for repair and had just 28-300 (in this range) left as a backup for coming wedding - I was under pressure and purchased 24-120... Then I had to compare them... Then I sold 28-300 and got 70-300VC for travel... So, in the end I've lost almost $700 to gain IQ of 70-300VC in the long end and AF speed and IQ of 24-120... I also lost convenience of 28-300 range in one lens...
People, don't do this mistake... Please don't compare 28-300... Just use it. I've never compared it to my 24-70 since they are for different purposes and I was very happy... LOL...
