I want an L lens and can afford either the 70-300 or the 100-400. Which one?

If weight is an issue the lighter of the two I suppose. I've had the 100-400 for a year and I can't get it off my 5DM2, I just love it as a walkaround lens. Mind you I do most of my ''walking around'' on a scooter or motorbike carrying the combination in a Slingshot Lowepro. I don't think one replaces the other, I think it would however slot in nicely between a 70-200f2.8 or 4 and the 100-400. It is not compatable with extenders. Never had any experience with the 70-300 but I've used the 100-400 for a footy match in good light and got some great shots with it. Good light is the key to this lens. I have the 70-200f4L IS and the 1.4 II extender but the extra 100mm of the 100-400 is a real asset.
