San Francisco PC upgrade advice
Oct 25, 2012

I've got a custom built PC that is about 6 years old that I use for photo processing. A lot of the parts are very nice (Silverstone case, power supply, Western Digital raptor hard drives, fan, etc.), but it's time for a major upgrade. The person who built the computer for me is in Southern California and I don't want to deal with shipping it down to him to work on.

I figure for a good upgrade that will last me several more years, I will need a new motherboard, CPU, video card and RAM and that I can use my other existing parts ( I may throw in a couple additional hard drives).

First question is does anyone have specific recommendations for those parts.

Second question, I was thinking of buying the parts at Central Computer on Howard Street in San Francisco and having their tech guys install the parts. Has anyone had any experience with them? Is there anyone else I should consider using in San Francisco?

Thanks you very much in advance for you advice.
