The OP is quite right the DX system has just a fast normal prime - the 35mm. The FX lenses you listed, while usable on DX do not perform the function they were designed for (on FX).

The 50mm FX lenses are normal lenses on FX, and while they can be used for portraiture on DX they are a tad short of the ideal. The equivalent on DX is the 35mm

The 85mm FX lenses are classic portait focal length, they can be used on DX as a 130mm lens. Still good for portraits if you've got the room but not a popular FL. Where is the portrait lens in DX ? There is no fast 58 or 60mm prime designed along the same lines for this purpose. There is a 60mm macro lens but it isn't a classic portrait lens.

Same for WA & UWA. No Nikon 16mm or wider primes. The 10.5mm fisheye is a completely different animal.

While I am not dissatisfied as the OP is (I am quite happy with a Sigma 10-20 zoom for wide angle for example) he is quite correct - the DX prime lens line up is far from complete, and his original statement does stand up.

+1, especially on the portrait lens.
