Which one for walk around: 24-85mm VR or 35-70mm f/2.8?

I have the 35-70 and the old 24-85 f2.8-f4 .

For people shots I prefer the 35-70, and for nature, city, walkaround I prefer the 24-85 because of it's range.

In contradiction to what some say the 35-70 is sharp wide open. Exept at 70mm when your subject is very close ( 4-5 feet ) ; then it should be stopped down to f4.
