Why are there no non-L 300 mm or 400 mm Canon primes?

Why are there no non-L 300 mm or 400 mm Canon primes?

I have always wondered about this.  It seems that if you want the reach of a 300mm or 400 mm lens you must choose between an inexpensive zoom lens, an L lens, or an L zoom.  I would like the reach of 300 mm or 400 mm for sports, don't need or want the zoom, and don't want to pay for L.  It seems there should be a niche for a non-L 300 mm prime if the quality was better than zoom but less than L.  Could it be that Canon doesn't want to cannibalize 300 mm L sales?  I could apply a DxO lens correction and the final result would be good.  If someone already makes a reasonably priced 300m prime just let me know.  I already have a 500 mm mirror and love it despite the fixed aperature, manual focus, and lack of IS.  But it is useless for sports.
