Advice please - wait for the f4 70-200 VR, or spend almost as much on 80-200 AF-s 2.8?

Have been contemplating and searching for solid reasonably priced 80-200 2.8's [- both the D and AF-S.]

Many sellers on ebay are currently asking close to $1400 for good AF-S', and apart from f2.8, the cons are at best the lens is 9 years old , obviously no warranty and who knows how long the SWM will last in it and if it fails, the repair cost.

Yes some are even selling for that amount, though historical price ranges into high $800's.

I know the 70-200 F4's too new for testing and reviews yet but honestly have to think it will compress both the 97-2004  80-200's resale values assuming it performs well. Again, am very much aware how desirable 2.8 is to many folks..but at what premium in this case?

[And on another note, WTH would anyone (in Nth America) buy an 80-200 2.8 on ebay in Nth America for anything close to $1000 when BH is selling them new for $1029/1079 ??? ]
