How do I merge Lightroom photos from laptop to desktop?

I am a photographer required to travel a lot. I always travel with my laptop and process the photos in Lightroom on the road. By doing so, I don't have to process thousands of photos when I'm back from a trip. I have my master category/database on a desktop computer at home. What is the best way to merge edited photos from laptop to desktop? I guess a lot of people would have the similar situation, I just haven't found a good way.
