Perhaps the very latest models have the jpeg options re-instated, including superfine.
There used to be superfine, fine and normal jpegs.
S95, G12 and G1X all offer both Normal and Fine jpeg compression options - look at the section on changing the compression ratio (Pg 79 of the English G12 manual for example).
The latest releases this year (e.g. G15 and SX50) offer Fine and Super Fine instead.
