Sigma 150-500 + 1.4x TC on D800 (f/8 AF sensor)
Oct 23, 2012

Can anyone who has a Sigma 150-500 (or 50-500) plus a 1.4x Sigma TC and a D800 (or other body with the new AF sensors that go to f/8) tell me if that combo can AF?  On the D7000 it cannot, even in good light; I am unsure whether the lack of AF is because the TC cuts it off, or the body just can't handle it at f/9.

The D7000 can AF (in good light) at f/8 (I have tried with a 70-300 + Kenko TC), so I know that Nikon ratings are a bit conservative.

My question is whether that extra bit of focusing in good light extends to the f/9 combo of the Sigma lenses.

Any experience would be very much appreciated.
