Even Kingfishers Need a Breather

My dream is to capture a kingfisher in flight. So far, due to their speed and uncanny ability to detect my presence, my dream remains a dream. This Friday however, my dream came one step closer to reality when I noticed this little fella disappear behind a wooden railing. Using all the stealth I had learned as a kid raiding the pantry, I tiptoed up to the wooden railing and leaning over, was met with this glorious sight. I haven't decided whether it noticed me and felt sorry for me or whether I miraculously became invisible for 4 seconds. Whatever the case, I managed to get off a quick burst of shots and then, obviously startled by the 7D's complete lack of tact :-), it took flight.

I had the camera set up for BIFs, so the shutter speed and consequently the ISO were higher than I would have liked, but all things considered, I'm quite pleased with the outcome.
