It sounds a bit weird that a certain lens would mess up colour this way; a lens can have a slight colour cast, it oes not eliminate complete colours.

Were you shooting raw? If not, I can imagine the wide angle picking up lots of other colours and lights apart from the main subject, with both auto exposure and auto whitebalance going overboard.
