I'ma big fan of used screw drive lenses. The 300 f4 edif is a great lens if you don't need vr or super fast af. The 50mm 1.2 is another bargain if you can deal with the manual focus. I just got a 180mm 2.8 af for $300 and it looks like a winner... Many people recommended the Sigma 150 macro but i could not find any decent used one when i was looking. On the wide side, I have a 24mm 2.8 which needed +20 focus adjustment. Its not the greatest, but stopped down to f8 its fine for landscapes. I liked it better on the D200. I also have the 28-105 which is a very good walk around lens that i still use when I want to travel light. The only hole in my collection is a micro... I'd probably get a 60 if i was buying one. The best part of these lenses is that you can sell them off for close to the used purchase prices... so try them out and sell them if you are not satisfied.
