With the new 70-200, should I wait on getting the classic 70-200 f/2.8?

While nobody outside Nikon really knows, I'd bet against a 70-200mm f2.8 update any time soon.  The current VR2 version is a superb lens and I see very few complaints about it's design and results.  Nikon is therefore likely to concentrate it's limited resources on areas it feels it is weak in. Also, as I recall, the current VR2 was introduced for two reasons: firstly, to introduce the updated vibration reduction, and secondly (and more importantly), to improve it's performance with the relatively new (at that time), FX sensor cameras appearing in numbers.

As there is no new sensor and the lens is already superb on FX, there is unlikely to be any urgency at Nikon to update it.
