Nikon TC-14E II

Hi folks,

I'm going on safari in Tanzania in mid-December.  I have a D7000, and I've already bought a AF-S Nikkor 18-300mm 3.5-5.6G ED VR lense that I've been trying out and has been working beautifully.  Can I pair this with the TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter to get some further reach?  I realize that I'll lose a full stop, but is this a viable alternative to going to a longer (and heavier) lense for wildlife shooting on the Serengeti?  Thanks for your help!!!
